We all had great expectations for Season 8, but did we label it as Season gr8 too early? The idea that it might end up as just the two brothers, with no important supporting characters and no substantial plot, is getting circulated more and more, and it’s becoming increasingly uncomfortable.
For anyone who has watched Supernatural all the way through, it has been a journey of loss and grief mixed with happiness and strong family bonds. While Dean and Sam love each other very much, they simply can’t get through in this world by themselves. Family is important to them, and family don’t end with blood.
There is a lot of wasted potential on the show and it’s becoming increasingly common for characters to be tossed away like they’re nothing by killing them off. There are a lot of us who think that this is simply not okay. The show could be fantastic if it just kept on characters like Bobby, Gabriel, Ash, Ellen, Jo, Samandriel, and even villains such as Meg, Lucifer, Eve, and so on. There are so many characters who could have done so much more, and it’s very upsetting to see the same thing happen to them time and time again.
The show simply can’t function on a minimal plot where two horrendously co-dependent brothers just go around killing the monster of the week. We’re 8 seasons in and the powers that be should know better by now. They are clever, they know their lore, they’re often very fantastic at writing compelling material that has you on the edge of your seat, that has you in tears, has you laughing along.
Although lately, the show is starting to fall flat. The mentality of it being ‘just the brothers’ with ‘no third wheel’ is becoming more common and much louder, so it’s time for those who disagree to get loud too. Because it would be a tragedy if the show ended 8 or 9 years later with minimal character growth and with the two main characters being in practically the same spot that they were when the show first began.
So, without further ado, I would like to propose a challenge, a campaign. It’s very simple, and won’t cost you much at all. Some of you may remember a show called Jericho that was getting cancelled after its first season. Fans didn’t want it to end that way, so they send insane amounts of peanuts to the show runners until the network and the runners finally got the message and renewed it for another season to wrap it up.
I am proposing something similar. Feathers for Castiel is a campaign aimed at the powers that be to make them realise that the fandom wants characters such as Castiel to be recognised as important parts of the show, wants a deeper plot, wants a mytharc for Dean, wants Cas to be a more important part of the show, wants more recurring, strong female characters who are not there for their sexual appeal, wants a better show. There are parts of the fandom that simply aren’t happy with how things are going.
The show’s idea of two co-dependent brothers with no family, no friends and no reasonable storyline is NOT a good show idea, it will not last. To ensure its longevity, Supernatural needs to listen to its fans, and not just the brothers’ fans.
To be a part of the campaign and show your support of Castiel and other supporting characters, simply write in big, bold letters on a piece of paper “Feathers for Castiel” and put it in an envelope. Also put a feather (or many) in the envelope, white if possible but any colour if you can’t find white. Include a letter behind the bold note if you like, expressing your opinion, and then seal the envelope and send it to this address:

Letters should be sent so they arrive at their destination on the 27th of February, or as close as you can get to it. Talk to your local post office to find out when you should send it.
Check your local craft stores and supermarkets for feathers. If you want to send a box of feathers or go even more extreme, feel free.
